i know netstumbler just detects wireless connections but how does windows xp wireless manager detect that signal. also if i dont have drivers installed for my built in modem on my laptop can i still get connected to the internet?

Write down the SSID of the network.
Close netstumbler (to re-enable the WZC service).
Right Click the Wireless Tray Icon and “View Wireless Networks”
On the Left, click “Change Order of Preferred Networks”
Under Preferred Networks section, Click Add
Enter in the SSID and if it uses encryption, set it to WEP, WPA-PSK or WPA2-PSK (depending on the cypher).
CLick OK, then move the network to the top by selecting it and clicking “Move UP” repeatedly.
Click OK/Close, then repair the connection (Disabling and re-enabling works better).
