All you need is a driver for your wireless adapter, that comes from the vendor of the wireless adapter. The driver is the “glue” between the MS Windows (assuming your running windows) and the adapter.
There is nothing else to get.
You either have the wrong driver or the driver isn’t loaded right or your driver has a bug if it doesn’t work right.
If you’ve upgraded to Vista, there are MANY hardware devices that don’t have Vista drivers.
If you upgraded to Vista – I’d go back to XP.
If your adapter came with certain software, 9 times out of 10 you want to stick with that
go to your adapters homepage and check for updates on there software

Just uninstall the software that came with the computer and use the built-in Windows software, it works well and is fine.
