Hi, i recently downloaded and tried backtrack 3 from a live cd on my laptop, My laptop is an Acer Aspire 5310 with 1.6GHz processor and 2GB DDR2 RAM, i liked backtrack a lot but the only problem was that my computer originally came with Windows Vista and so the driver software for the Atheros AR5007EG doesnt appear to be compatable with Backtrack 3, what i want to know is is there any way of getting this to work? or wil i have to purchase a wireless card

Hey, good news!
I have a very similar Acer laptop (Acer Aspire 5315-2153). I had problems getting the Wireless to work for Windows XP and Linux Mint 6. In the end, I got the Wireless on both operating systems to work great! (I setup a dualboot to get both OS.)
For Linux, you have to get ndiswrapper, and install it on Linux. If you have any earlier versions of it, you have to uninstall/get rid of it! Once ndiswrapper is installed from the Terminal, you have to control ndiswrapper from the Terminal to install the Windows Vista Wireless Driver. Now, ndiswrapper can’t install a .exe file. So hopefully, your Vista Driver has an .inf file that comes along with it. The .inf file is how ndiswrapper installs the Windows Driver into Linux.
It’s all very hard and tricky to do, but worth it in the end.
You should be able to just Google you make and model, and someone out there probably has and exact tutorial with step by step instructions.
But in the long run, this is what you’re going to be doing:
-Uninstall any earlier versions of ndiswrapper
-Blacklist any Wireless drivers Linux tries to use
-Download the newest version of ndiswrapper
-Install ndiswrapper
-Find the Windows Vista Wireless Driver, and install from the .inf file
Once all that’s done, you should have Wireless working great!
(Note: You will be using a bunch of Terminal Commands. And Probably some Sudo stuff as well!)
Good Luck! Hope you can get it all working!
