It depends on your router. Most allow you to, one way or another, view the active connections to that router from the configuration area. Each one is different in how it does this or where it stores this information, however.
Usually, to access your router, you open up any web browser and type the router’s IP address into the URL box. More often than not, this pulls up a configuration dialog (possibly after requesting a username and/or password). If it keeps the information you’re looking for, it will most likely be stored somewhere in here.

Once you’ve determined if someone else is using your router you can add a layer of security by only allowing known MAC addresses to access it. As each network adapter will have a unique MAC address you can block all other traffic quite easily. You MAC address can be found using the “ipconfig /all” command in the WinXP command prompt.
If no one else is using your network, but it’s still being slow/unresponsive you may want to check if you have any spyware/malware on your system using up all your bandwidth.

Click on start>run>type cmd.exe>ipconfig/all>look for your IP address, it should be something like this 192.168.1.0 or 192.168.1.1. Copy it and paste it into your browser, this will open your router admin. Now look for wireless settings and change the password. Nobody can connect to your network except the password is given to them by you.
Remember – it is this area you can make changes and also if you activate your log all activities you will be able to know who is using or logging into your network illegally

Will get out the router manual and check from there. It should have URL you go to, to access it.
A good example is for BT Hubs you use 192.168.1.254 to access your router and see everyone else connected to it wireless and wired
